After two long years, I’ve decided to finish Project O-Scope. Some things have changed since I last worked on it. It’s now going to be used as a car computer, and will have a 400W AC Inverter with it.
Here’s the latest shots of me stripping the case for priming and bodywork:

And installing the OS on the workbench:

Yes, after selling my wonderful air-conditioned Mod Shop in New Orleans (and I think we sold a house to go with it) it’s time to pimp out my new workspace! At least as much as you can pimp out particle board.
I just picked up a new digital camera. I’ve been wanting a nice one, and after my kids lost the cheap-o one I’ve been getting by with, I sprung for a new Kodak Z812IS.
It’s nice, but more importantly, I can make videos with it, and I don’t need a video converter box to copy over VHS anymore. This alone will cut my video production time in half. Well, not really, but I can dream, can’t I?

A nice review of this nice camera will nicely be posted here soon. Nice!
Okay, my dirty little secret in the computer world is that I don’t actually keep up with technology. I’m an old-school computer guy, so the latest gizmos usually escape my notice until they start selling them at Best Buy.
However, I ran across this and thought it was just fantastic! I’ve seen SATA converters before, but this takes the cake… notice how they used a Western Digital Raptor X drive? I think I would have to use one too. What about you? Is this something you’d rock on your desktop? They make it with a USB hub, too!

What is Descent?
Descent is a series of Video Games that first appeared in 1995. It became famous for being the first truly 3-D game with 6 full degrees of freedom (or 6DOF for short).
A secret key in Descent 1:
Why do I want to play a game that’s over ten years old? Read more…

This project started off as a challenge to do a nice, cheap mod on a schedule. I think it came out rather nicely! The case is an Ultra Micro, found on sale for $35.
